Welcome! I really enjoyed your story and it wasn't too long! It resonates with me on so many levels. Born in- but no friends- I hear that. The hypocrisy of what Jackson said at arc was a big deal to me too. You can't force us to believe one thing and then change it aka lie when it suits u. I was really over that. We had a foreigner in the foreign language ministry force us to do research that made us question a lot but he wasn't ex jw. He was just reasonable and not blinded by the cult. We were pioneering at the time and I was bothered that I couldn't defend the truth. Now I realize I couldn't defend it cuz it wasn't the truth. Still feels weird typing that...

Poisonous chicken
by zeb inlast night my wife prepared dinner.
chicken and veg.
as she was cooking the chicken it gave off the most vile smell.

I'm not sure why the bad smell wasn't a tip off that it was inedible or not safe to eat?

JW Baptism Anullment
by Farmer Jim1 inhas anyone ever successfully annulled their jw baptism?
especially if they were very young when baptised?.
-
All or nothing
So I was thinking about how I was baptized as an infant in the Catholic Church and later after that my parents found the jw cult. Then I was baptized as a teenager to officially be part of the cult. So since I was baptized 1st in the Catholic Church, wouldn't that make me still a Catholic? I seriously doubt my parents contacted the Catholic Church to ask them to remove us all from their membership- any thoughts?

Biblical incidents that bothered me.
by EverApostate ini wanted to discuss the (supposed) biblical events that disturbed me a lot when i was a jw.
these incidents were just read and discussed in the kingdom hall as if these are normal and justified, which clearly weren't.
perhaps this led to my awakening.

Also this whole belief system that in his perfect justice (that we can't question or even understand according to the GB) all the 6000 plus years of human existence filled with so much injustice and suffering - that he still watches it all and lets it continue on to wait on humans to realize he has the right to rule. If I worked for a boss that let bad things continue over and over again to happen and did not take control of the workplace properly I would rightly conclude that this boss does not have the right to govern. My conclusions from reading the bible was that it contradicts itself and it does not prove it is inspired of god. I really don't think there is a god. Science has proved that humans have been on this earth longer than the bible and GB teach. A positive thought I try to hold on to is that perhaps with science researching about our DNA they may learn how to extend our life during my lifetime- it still stings so much to accept we won't live forever like we have been taught from childhood

the GB's coup of the FDS
by Magnum ini believe the gb's takeover of the fds was an illegal coup - not illegal relative to the laws of land, but illegal according to jw "laws" or doctrine.. according to jw doctrine, the fds is god's channel of communication between heaven and earth.
before the coup, the fds was defined to be all the anointed on earth, and the gb was part of that group and merely the spokesman for the group - individual gb members having no more authority than non-gb members of the fds.. however, a few years ago, the gb, independently of the other members of the fds, decided that it alone was the fds.
that, to me, was an illegal overthrow of the body (fds); it was a coup.. suppose the u.s. president decided that he has all power, and that he removed the powers of the u.s. congress.

I know- I looked around the congregation as those articles were being studied and I was in shock that all these sheep were blindly following along and I realized I did not belong there anymore

The census account always bothered me for 2 reasons:
shouldnt David have paid the price, not the people?
also- isn't us being forced to turn in time - the same as this census thing?

Faced with the reality of mortality
by stuckinarut2 inhow have you all coped with facing the reality of our mortality?.
most of us were raised to firmly believe we would never get old or die... so here we are now having to face the reality that are getting older... we are going to die.. sometimes it really pisses me off that we were never helped to comprehend this most basic of facts.
we were given a utopian dream as a "fact", and hence never taught how to face our inevitable futures.... thoughts?.

When I first learned TTATT I felt cheated, devastated, sad and depressed. Now, several years later I choose to live each day to the full and not live for some future false promise. The real challenge now is the delusional still in family that are still believing the false nonsense. I cringe when they talk in the cult lingo. I can tell they are experiencing cognitive dissonance but have to be careful what to say, not to out myself. It's bad enough that we have to face the reality of our mortality...but to deal with our still in family not knowing or prepared to deal with their mortality is going to be a difficult road...

Why I lost my religion
by Sour Grapes ini was a jw for over 50 years and recently just stopped cold turkey going to the meetings.
years of sitting at the meetings with the boredom, the gloom and doom, repetition of doctrine, the gloom and doom, the fake love, the gloom and doom, the end being so close, do more - do more, just got to be too much for me to stomach.
i stopped praying to god and no longer thank god for the food before i eat.

I never could accept the explanation from the GB about why god permits suffering. Your reasoning on it has been almost my exact thoughts. I used to think if I am aware of only 1 tiny injustice that happens and it upsets and effects my deeply how does our loving father watch 24-7 injustices and not stop it. Hasn't every form of human government already been attempted? The usual jw canned answer is that he will make right all those injustices and he has perfect justice. Well that never brought me any comfort...
